Marine Corps League Resolution in Support of Project Purple Heart

WHEREAS by general orders to the Continental Army from Commander in Chief George Washington on 7 August, 1782, the Badge of Military Merit was established in the form of a purple heart,and WHEREAS the Purple Heart Award was established by General Order 3 of the United States Department of War on February 22, 1932, the 200th anniversary of the birth of General Washington, and WHEREAS Stolen Valor is of concern to military veterans and Veteran Service Organizations, and WHEREAS the United States Department of Defense has established a database of recipients for certain awards of valor, and WHEREAS the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor, New York, has established an unofficial and voluntary listing of Purple Heart recipients, and WHEREAS the Honoring Purple Heart Recipients Act of 2022 has been introduced in the United States Congress to direct the Department of Defense to include Purple Heart recipients in its database, and WHEREAS the National Flag Foundation has established the adoption of that legislation as a goal of the organization, and WHEREAS the National Flag Foundation will celebrate the 240th anniversary of the establishment of the Purple Heart and its predecessor with observances in cities across the nation on November 11, 2022,and WHEARAS the Department of Pennsylvania in convention on 25 June 2022 adopted this Resolution for transmission to the National Convention of the Marine Corps League to enlist its support nationally, and WHEREAS the National Commandant of the Marine Corps League has communicated support for the legislation introduced, now therefore be it RESOLVED that the Marine Corps League shall lend its support to the activities of the National Flag Foundation, and be it further RESOLVED that the League encourage its members to lobby representatives in Congress to support the adoption of the Honoring Purple Heart Recipients Act of 2022 (HR 51 72 and S 4006) and be it further RESOLVED that the League encourage Marine Corps League Detachments to participate with the National Flag Foundation as available and appropriate in the 240th anniversary observances in their communities. ADOPTED in National Convention Assembled this 19th day of August 2022.
